QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADOPTION
Our very first requirement for adoption is having predator-proof housing. Photos of your set-up and a description must be added when you send your adoption application in. If your set up does not meet our requirements, we will let you know and give suggestions on how to fix it. We understand that making changes to your coop to make it 100% predator-proof can be expensive. If you are considering NOT adopting because you do not meet the requirements on predator proof housing, please contact us so we can help.
If you are wanting to adopt a duck to use for breeding, eggs, meat, selling, etc., then adopting through us is not for you. You must sign an agreement stating that you will not use the animal for any of these purposes and that if you can no longer keep the duck(s), that they must come back to us and you are not allowed to rehome them without our consent. All female ducks will receive a deslorelin implant before being adopted, for reasons that are explained in our "why we hormone implant our female ducks" blog post.
Every animal has an adoption fee. If you are going to be providing several of our animals a good home, then we can try to work with you on price for all of them. But if you are only adopting one or two animals and you cannot afford the adoption fee, then you do not qualify. If you can't afford an adoption fee, then you most likely can't afford food, vet bills, etc. Fees must be paid before we release the animals to you.
After the animal(s) have been adopted out to you, we will ask for occasional updates. If we cannot get ahold of you after multiple attempts, you will not qualify to adopt again until you are able to provide proof that the previous animals are safe and well taken care of. If an animal adopted out to you dies or disappears for any reason, we ask that you let us know. This is not to blame you or make you feel bad, this is so we can update our records. If it was an unsuspected death not caused by a predator and you would like a necropsy done and would like financial help, contact us ASAP and we can discuss the circumstances and if we can/will pay to have the necropsy done.
